4th May 2025 - Buffett, fruit, headlock

Warren Buffett is retiring. He reminds me of Siberia, because he looks a lot like an old boss of mine, except fifty years older. They have the same shrewd expression.

He invested, I learned, in Fruit of the Loom. When I read this a little flicker of desire goes through me, to buy a Fruit of the Loom shirt.

That's capitalism. These flickers of desire that take root and bloom into fruit.

And now I'm thinking: Actually, a Fruit of the Loom shirt would be quite nice.

Is that still capitalism, or is it me, or is it both?

Buffett has trapped me. He has me on the floor, a wrestler with a cane. I'm in a headlock. He has that shrewd expression on his face as he squeezes. I'm not going to buy one of your shirts, Warren, I snarl. You are, you know you are, he whispers.

Usually I get polo shirts and t-shirts from Levis. But, I take a look on Amazon. They are quite nice. Colorful. Good reviews.

You see...

Well, these are the kind of disordered thoughts that prance about in my head as I look out the window briefly inbetween paragraphs of a New York Times article about an old capitalist.
